Free ebook: ‘A White Heron’ by Sarah Orne Jewett

Dear friends and followers of the Grammaticus blog,

It is my pleasure to present the third title in the series of Grammaticus Free Library ebooks. After โ€˜The Snowโ€™ by Hugh Walpole and โ€˜A Morning Walkโ€™ by Kate Chopin, you can now download Sarah Orne Jewettโ€™s short story โ€˜A White Heronโ€™, first published in 1886.

Typical of Orne Jewettโ€™s regionalist approach to writing, the story is set in the Maine countryside. It explores themes that are now more relevant than ever: the main characterโ€™s heartwarming relationship with nature, the animal world and its beauty provides a lesson to us all.

As with the previous titles, the ebook contains vocabulary notes intended for English language learners.
