โ€œI Wandered Lonely as a Cloudโ€ by William Wordsworth

You might think the poet is the main character of this poem - the I of the first line - but it is actually these beautiful flowers that steal the show. Growing everywhere, as far as the poetโ€™s inner eye can see, they flutter and dance, shine and twinkleโ€ฆ Bringing memories of comfort and delight to the poetโ€™s otherwise lonely and isolated existence.

โ€œWinter Treesโ€ by William Carlos Williams

The poem presented in this post first appeared in Williamsโ€™ book titled โ€œSour Grapes: A Book of Poemsโ€, published in 1921. Like many other of his works, itโ€™s wonderfully simple and minimalist: the poet uses an extremely common image only to transform it into something delightfully rich and filled with meaning.
