This book is a very nicely written novel, with gorgeous descriptions of a quiet, provincial life, offering glimpses into the lives of northern German landed gentry of the late 1800s.
The poet alerts us to small, mundane details from everyday life that we would otherwise most likely overlook or take for granted. Once we regain our focus, it just may turn out that "allโs right with the world". Or is it?

Written almost two centuries ago, Maccallโs view of poets and poetry remains relevant, inspiring, and thought-provoking.
