At the very beginning of autumn, I’m happy to launch the latest title in the Grammaticus Free Library series: “The Ambitious Guest” by Nathaniel Hawthorne.
Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804-1864) was a novelist and short story writer, considered one of the most important American authors of the 19th century.
In his story “The Ambitious Guest”, a young traveller stops at a family’s mountain home and speaks of his ambition of becoming famous and leaving a lasting legacy. Before any of those hopes can be fulfilled, a massive landslide suddenly destroys everything in its path, highlighting the uncertainty of life and the fragility of human aspirations.
