Free ebook: “An Alpine Divorce” by Robert Barr

Dear friends and followers of the Grammaticus blog,

I’m happy to present the eighth title in the Grammaticus Free Library series. Published quarterly, at solstices and equinoxes, in the PDF format, each ebook contains the full, unabridged text of a short story, typically by a 19th or early 20th century writer.

The latest title is “An Alpine Divorce”, an exciting crime story written by the Scottish-Canadian writer Robert Barr (1849–1912). It’s about a husband and wife, very similar in character, who grew to hate each other with passion. While on holidays in the Swiss Alps, their marriage comes to its tragic and final end.

Unlike the previous seven titles, this one doesn’t contain vocabulary notes for the ESL students, but there is blank space left at the bottom of each page where learners can insert their own comments. This particular story is suitable for students at the CEFR levels C1 and C2.
